Common Mistakes People Make In Internet Marketing

Here are a few common mistakes people make when they are marketing their business on the internet. Your time is valuable, and you don't want to waste it on things that will not help you grow your business.

1. Using a company replicated web site. There is nothing personal about a cookie cutter company site that sets you apart from anyone else. Replicated sites have improved somewhat in the last while and often have an "about me" page where you can post your picture and write something about yourself, but it's still not the thing you want to lead with. A company site has it's place if you want to send people to learn more about your product and company but this is only AFTER you have a relationship with them.

2. Pay per click. This can be highly successful but it's also a way to lose a lot of money, and fast. Pay per click is a skill that needs to be learned, and should not be undertaken until you really know what you are doing. In addition, there is enormous competetion with other marketers.

3. Spamming social networking sites, internet marketing forums, etc. Sites like Facebook, network marketing forums at Rich Dad.com among many others, are a great way to connect with new people. Some people abuse them by posting their links over and over, and not making any real attempt to become friends with people. Many have their blogs linked to social networking sites so their blog posts will appear on their news feed, and if you are providing content that is helpful to others I dont consider this spam. Rather I am talking about people saying how great their company and/or product is, and then a link to their web site. That's a good way to get removed from others' friends list.

4. When posting on discussion forums leaving a reply that just says "I agree" or "good information" adds nothing to the discussion, and gives others the impression the poster only wants to put his or her name there so they can add their signature line in the post. Add something useful to every post.

5. Using hype. It's easy to come across web sites and capture pages that say how "easy" it is to build a business, or that people will come flocking to you if you just get this "system" or other things of that nature. The truth is, it takes time and effort to build a business. If you have never started a blog, or done a single video yet, or have your first capture page, you need to be patient for your traffic to really start to build and for compounding to take effect. The more you do, the faster you can start to see results, but even so....be patient and persistent.

6. Using ALL CAPS or too many caps as well as too many exclammation points. All capitals is considered shouting and overuse of both of these looks unprofessional.

7. Getting overwhelmed with trying to take on too much too quickly. If you are new to this, don't try to do videos, blogging, article marketing, social networking, etc at the same time. If you love to talk, you may want to start with videos and social networking. If writing is your choice start a blog right away. I certainly recommend getting on social networking sites right away if you aren't already, that will really compliment your other marketing since you can add your own content to your profile.

8. Thinking that anyone who opts in to your newsletter, or calls you and leaves a message for you to call back, is automatically a good prospect for your business. You will find as you go along that there are some people you won't want to work with. Anyone with a negative attitude, who sounds totally lifeless on the phone, who isn't coachable....they can drag you down and will not be good candidates for you. Remember you are in the drivers seat. You can say "no" to someone. You don't have to sign up anyone with a pulse. You are looking for people who are looking for you.... people who will not make excuses and do whatever it takes to succeed.
